BY ANY OTHER NAME
1 oz Plymouth Gin
½ oz Strawberry Liqueur
2 oz French Rosé
1/6 oz Chambord (rinse)
3 slices of lemon peel
The “By Any Other Name” is probably one of my weirder creations. I was bored one day and thought why not? There are cocktails throughout history that use wine as ingredients and I thought I would stamp my interpretation into cocktail infamy. This is a little bit more of a complex drink with layered flavours and characteristics.
Place the lemon peel (pith removed) into a Boston glass and smash it, you want to push all those oils and essences out of the skin. Put your nose in the glass and smell, it doesn’t seem like much but you will find it divine. This is a very complex ingredient that you will taste in the final product plus it will compliment the aromatics in the gin.
Pour the other ingredients into the glass, ice up and give her a good shake. Double strain into a Chambord rinsed martini glass. Now here is the fun bit, the thing that will drive the crowd wild. Slice some rind off a lemon and flame it across the top of the drink, rim the glass with the burnt lemon peel and drop in the drink.
This drink is a leap of faith, it sounds weird and it can be a hard sell to the unknowing, uneducated customers. You will find someone you can sell this to and they will love it.
