PETALUMA BRIDGEWATER MILL 3 DISTRICTS (Australia)

I first tasted this about 6 years ago when I worked on Hayman Island, at the time I didn't think anything of it until I came to Canada and found it again. It's a blend of Chardonnay grapes from Coonawarra, Clare Valley and the Adelaide Hills. For a 2002 vintage from such prominent wine regions for the price, there is nothing out there better.

Once you crack it, you get aromas of buttery oak, stewed green apples and herbaceous cut grass. A beautiful deep golden wheat color gets poured into your glass. The flavors transfer through to the palate with smooth, rich butter and apple pie with a light acidity on the back palate. For a bang for your buck wine there is only a few that come close, but drink it now as it probably hasn't got too much aging ability left to go.
